The project concept is derived from silkworm breeding translating to a room or place for sericulture – the cultivation of silkworms to produce silk. Observing a cocoon of a silkworm chrysalis, the WEAVING of silk inspires a design concept of INTERSECTING elements that could be applied to a city. Intersecting and weaving paths across the ground plane, are brought up into the vertical plane.

The structure is provided by a central circulation core, three curving columns and an exoskeleton
A Section through the sky city reveals the high-density communities that spiral upwards and weave through the structure
The scale of the sky city is revealed in the context of the surrounding urban structures
A vertical circulation system weaves its way upward connecting key ‘destinations’ that are embedded amongst the residential elements
Any variation of urban massing can be strategically arranged within the superstructure
